My experience in Shimane prefecture

When I visited Shimane Prefecture, I was very impressed by the interactions I had with the local people. For example, an encounter on “Sazanami Dori” in Matsue City. There, I was able to learn about Shimane’s traditions and culture at local shops and cafes. In particular, at Shimane Kobo, a shop that handmade local traditional crafts and sweets, I was able to feel the warmth of the handmade products and the skill of the craftsmen, and was able to deeply feel the charm of Shimane.

Izumo Taisha, the place of matchmaking

Izumo Taisha Shrine is one of Japan’s most representative shrines, and is visited by many visitors from Japan and abroad. As one of them, when I visited this sacred place, I felt a deep sense of peace and the weight of history. The once-a-month “Kamisai” is a special time when Japanese gods gather together. During this period, special rituals and rituals are held and you can witness them.

Enchanted Lake, Lake Shinji

Lake Shinji, Japan’s largest brackish water lake, has a vast landscape that changes its appearance each season. I visited in spring and was deeply moved by the beautiful reflection of the cherry blossoms on the surface of the lake. There are also hot spring facilities such as Shinjikohan Onsen around the lake, and bathing while looking out at the lake is a special experience.

Historical buildings selected by Kasumi

Shimane Prefecture is known as a place with a long history and culture. I, Kasumi, would like to introduce five historical buildings that I personally visited and was particularly impressed with. We will also add “Kasumi Points” to each item to convey its appeal.

1. Matsue Castle (Matsue City)

Kasumi points:

Matsue Castle is one of Japan’s 12 remaining castle towers. This castle is built on a lake, and its beauty is enchanted by the changing nature of the four seasons. Especially during the spring cherry blossom season, the collaboration between the castle and the cherry blossoms is a spectacular sight.
